Donny 2-Dolls, a national disgrace

This week, Donny 2-Dolls demanded networks across the country air his prime-time address to the nation in which he reiterated his false claims that the 2020 election was stolen and that voter fraud is a widespread problem in U.S. elections. He also spent a significant amount of time posing hypothetical threats and offered no evidence that these made-up problems are actually affecting U.S. elections. The only claim he made that has any basis in truth is his claim that foreign powers could hack into election systems to change votes. That one actually happened, but in Venezuela, not in the United States.

The whole point of Trump's insane public rantings is to try to create a sense of urgency around the SAVE America Act, which he is hoping Congress will pass to disenfranchise millions of legitimate voters who are likely to vote for Democrats instead of Republicans. One of the most prominent features of the SAVE act is that it would make it much more difficult for married women (who have changed their name to their husband's family name) to register to vote. This is in line with the Trump regime's push to stop women from voting by restricting voting to just one vote per household instead of one vote per person.

The most notable part of the speech was that Trump did not offer any solutions to any of the problems that he mentioned. Furthermore, despite his repeated claims of fraud, he has not prosecuted anyone for election-related offenses, which he would surely do if he had any proof whatsoever for his insane claims.

Donny 2-Dolls has removed several board members of the Election Assistance Commission, a move that has raised concerns about the integrity of the U.S. electoral process. The commission, which provides technical support for elections, has been a target of Trump's criticism, and his removal of key members signals a continued effort to reshape the way elections are conducted in the United States.

This is the first major test of a new Supreme Court ruling allowing the president to fire members of independent agencies without cause. These EAC members were fired because they resisted his efforts to make the voter registration process more difficult. The whole point of having independent agencies in the government is to provide a check on the power wielded by the executive branch. Which means that these people were fired for doing their jobs well. Technically, he only fired 2 of the 4 members of the board...one resigned and another had left his post earlier this year. The EAC is responsible for distributing grants to state and local election offices, and now that it has no board members, it may not be able to fulfill its mission.

Purging commissioners just months before the midterm elections and further gutting support for our state and local elections officials is a blatant part of his plan to politicize our elections and enable more unlawful and dangerous election interference.

The Reflecting Pool in Washington D.C. is turning into a perfect analogy for Donny 2-Dolls' legacy of bad business deals, blatant corruption, and inability to do anything right. After promising to beautify the Reflecting Pool for the low, low cost of $1.5 million, he ended up giving a no-bid contract to his personal choice of a "guy who's unbelievable at doing swimming pools," resulting in a cost that's already ballooned to around $16 million—over ten times the budgeted cost. And we're not done yet, because that doesn't include the latest efforts to drain the Reflecting Pool (again) and repair the "damage" (again).

Trump has repeatedly claimed, without a shred of evidence, that the latest round of problems with the Reflecting Pool were the result of vandals cutting a 350-foot long gash into the liner of the pool. Now that the pool has been drained, everyone can see that there is no tear or gash visible anywhere in the pool's surface. But the original shoddy workmanship is on display for all to see. We can also see that the paint has faded from what Trump called "American flag blue" has faded to gray, even though the liner has only been in place for a matter of weeks, despite his claims that the liner would last for 50 to 100 years.
