The U.S. government has officially shut down as Congress fails to come to an agreement on a funding bill. Republicans expect Democrats to accept the funding bill they created without any Democratic feedback, and Democrats expect Republicans to make concessions and extend subsidies for Affordable Care Act health insurance policies for American citizens.
While the government is shut down, government employees will not receive their paychecks, except for Members of Congress who continue to be paid. Unpaid employees fall into two categories: Those that are temporarily ordered not to report to work, and those who are considered essential personnel and are required to continue working without pay. But Donny 2-Dolls is weighing the options for adding a third category: Just fire the furloughed employees. The Trump regime has been rashly firing federal employees since taking control of the country, and now they are using this shutdown to inflict even more pain on the American people.
While Democrats disagree with most of the provisions of the Republican spending bill, the main concession they are asking for is to extend subsidies for health insurance policies that are set to expire at the end of the year. If these subsidies expire, millions of Americans will see their health care policies double or even triple in price next year.

The United States has been destroying Venezuelan watercraft in international water on the unsubstantiated claims that they are carrying narcotics, and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller has played a leading role in directing the attacks, which are carried out by the United States armed forces.
The Trump regime has been claiming that these actions are taken in self-defense, though legal experts allege that they are, instead, extrajudicial murders that take place in international waters.
The ugly...
In one of many nightmarish scenes just this week, hundreds of armed ICE thugs wearing military-style costumes descended on an apartment complex in the middle of the night along with riot trucks and helicopters. They deployed smoke grenades, broke through fences and stormed the building, dragging residents out of their homes at gunpoint to stand outside in little to no clothing for hours or loading them like cattle into unmarked rental vans and hauling off to undisclosed locations.
Some of those rounded up may have been undocumented, but many of them were certainly legal U.S. residents. In all, 37 people were arrested. Children were tied together with zip-ties while agents laughed and one was heard to say, "Fuck them kids."
ICE-stapo agents growing increasingly violent towards protesters at their Broadview, Illinois, processing facility at 1930 Beach Street. The facility is not suitable for holding detainees for more than 12 hours, but people are being held for much longer without beds or proper sanitary conditions.
Protesters have gathered every day to hold a prayer vigil outside this facility every week for more than twenty years. Under the Trump regime, ICE agents have grown more violent towards both detainees and protesters, and the Broadview police department has gone from defending protesters to defending ICE agents, and is now turning a blind eye to the increasing violence. Protesters have been shot with pepperballs and rubber bullets, teargassed, thrown to the streets, and agents have driven their cars through crowds of people on public streets.
Congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh has been with the protesters each week, and has been assaulted multiple times by agents. In the video below, she outlines the escalating violence over the past few weeks.
What can you do this week?

On October 18, millions of us are rising again to show the world: America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people.
On June 14, 2025, millions of Americans took to the streets to show the Trump regime that they do not have the support of the people, and to send a message: "In America, we have no kings." Since then, the regime has ignored the people and continued to dismantle our democracy and consolidate power in the executive branch. On October 18, we will once again take to the streets to repeat this message and show the Trump regime that they are not welcome here.
Sign up for a No Kings Safety and Security Training online event on October 9. This event is designed for hosts and safety leads, but is useful for any attendee as it covers topics like creating a safety plan and de-escalation techniques.
Keeping you informed...
Arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka at an ICE facility in May was planned, staged, and executed on orders from the deputy attorney general of the United States. The arrest was carried out despite the fact that there was no reasonable justification...the mayor had already left the facility by the time the decision was made to arrest him.
The ICE-stapo agents are briefed by an officer and given direct orders—as they are preparing to make an arrest—to turn off their body cams. I can't think of any more clear sign that an agent is about to do something immoral or illegal than being told in advance to turn off their body cam.
