The good...

Federal Judge blocks fast-track deportations [Link]

The Trump regime wants to fast-track the deportation of migrants by stripping detainees of their rights to due process, leaving them with no way to contest the legality of their deportation. U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb has ordered them to stop the practice, saying, "Prioritizing speed over all else will inevitably lead the government to erroneously remove people via this truncated process."

The fifth amendment to the Constitution of the United States states that "No person shall be...deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law." The phrase "no person" means exactly what it says. This law applies to everyone, whether they are citizens of the United States or not. It applies equally to the innocent and the guilty, because without the due process of law, there is no way to distinguish between the two.

Even if you firmly believe undocumented immigrants should all be deported (Which is a remarkably ignorant belief), the only possible justification is that such immigrants have broken the law simply by residing in this country. But if the government deports people without due process, it is breaking the law. When the government breaks the law, it loses its legitimacy, and no longer has the legal right to enforce the law against other parties.

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst unlikely to run for re-election [Link]

Republican Senator Joni Ernst is not likely to run for re-election in Iowa in 2026. Ernst has been under fire in her state for her support of the Trump regime's cuts to Medicaid. Her constituents challenged that support during a town hall meeting, citing that people would die because of these cuts to Medicaid, to which Ernst callously replied, "Well, we're all going to die. For heaven's sake, folks."

She faced immediate backlash from her own constituents as well as the entire nation for her complete lack of empathy for the harm her support of this bill would cause. She made the situation even worse when she posted a video response, which she filmed inside a cemetery, to mock those who criticized her. She said, "I made an incorrect assumption that everyone in the auditorium understood that, yes, we are all going to perish from this Earth. So I apologize, and I'm really, really glad that I did not have to bring up the subject of the tooth fairy as well."

Goodbye and good riddance to you, Joni. You won't be missed.

The bad...

RFK Jr. will decide who gets Medicaid and who doesn't [Link]

The Trump regime has cut nearly a trillion dollars of funding to Medicaid after promising the American people they wouldn't touch it. One of the ways they are cutting costs is by requiring most Medicaid users to work a minimum of 80 hours a month in order to qualify for their benefits. The only exceptions will be those set by RFK Jr.

Kennedy's strategy for running the Department of Health and Human Services is to blame patients for their illnesses and limit their treatment options based on their economic productivity. This inhumane ideology will take away health care access from millions of people suffering from chronic medical conditions. A patient with chronic pain, autoimmune illness, and other debilitating diseases can still be required to meet the work requirements, unless RFK Jr. deems them unable to work. Imposing these requirements on people who are suffering from illness is nothing but cruel and unusual punishment.

David Machledt, a senior policy analyst with National Health Law Program, summarizes the new work requirements this way:

“They’re not really aiming at improving employment rates anywhere…it’s just a way of cutting people off of coverage and then blaming them for it.”

Missouri joins redistricting war [Link]

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe is the latest Republican governor to kiss Trump's ring with his announcement of a new congressional district map to favor Republicans in the 2026 midterms. Kehoe is ignoring pushback from his own constituents over the unpopular map in order to show his fealty to the TACO king.

In their mad rush to pass legislation that is unpopular with and harmful to their own party as well as Democrats, Republicans know that they are rapidly losing voter support. The Trump regime has kicked off this gerrymandering war in an attempt to rig the 2026 election because they know that the slim majority they hold in Congress currently is unlikely to continue through the next election cycle.

Brett Edkins, managing director of policy and political affairs for Stand Up America, said:

"Texas Republicans have started a nationwide redistricting arms race with no end in sight. Their reckless, partisan power grab will harm our democracy for years to come."

The ugly...

Kilmar Abrego Garcia detained by ICE again [Link]
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, 2025

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, from his meeting with Senator Chris Van Hollen on April 17, 2025, in El Salvador.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, famously detained by mistake and deported to a torture prison in El Salvador in violation of a court ruling prohibiting such deportation, has once again been detained by ICE/Gestapo agents.

Since deporting him by mistake months ago, the Trump regime has been desperately trying to retroactively justify their actions by trying to find some crime to change Abrego Garcia with. After a Supreme Court ruling demanding the Trump regime return him to the United States, he was brought back only to face trumped-up (pun intended) charges of human smuggling based on a traffic stop in 2022 that resulted in no charges at the time.

The Trump regime has repeatedly slandered Mr. Abrego Garcia, accusing him without evidence of being a gang member, a human trafficker, and a child predator.

Last week, a federal judge hearing his case ordered that he be freed until the trial was concluded, arguing that he did not pose a flight risk or a danger to the community. This week, just three days after his release, he was detained by ICE agents when he appeared at court as part of a required check-in.

DOGE whistleblower quits post as Chief Data Officer [Link]

Social Security Chief Data Officer Charles Borges reported that DOGE put Personally Identifiable Information (PII) at risk through, "systemic data security violations, uninhibited administrative access to highly sensitive production environments, and potential violations” of privacy laws by DOGE staff members. He reports that the sensitive data was uploaded to a cloud account outside of government oversight.

Borges later said he was involuntarily leaving his role at the agency, citing "a culture of panic and dread, with minimal information sharing, frequent discussions on employee termination, and general organizational dysfunction."

All Americans are at higher risk of identity theft because of the actions taken by DOGE's unqualified staff and leadership. Borges warns that, if the information is breached, the potential for identity theft may be so severe that the United States government may have to re-issue Social Security numbers to all Americans. A spokesperson for the Social Security Administration said the administration was not aware of any compromise of the data.
