The United States has fallen to a fascist regime. For two hundred forty nine years, this country stood for the idea of freedom and justice for all. While we never successfully lived up to our promise, we at least claimed that was the true purpose of this great experiment in democracy.
That dream died in 2025 with the election of Donald Trump to a second term in office. While his election was a disgrace to the country (both times he won), it was not his election that put an end to the American dream. It was the complete capitulation of the entire Republican Party to Trump's plans to turn this once-proud republic into a totalitarian dictatorship. The Republican Party bears the blame for facilitating the dissolution of the principles this nation was founded upon, but the takeover of the United States could not have succeeded if any other political parties were seen by the people to be true champions of American ideology. Instead, our entire political system has been crumbling for decades now, and the Trump regime's takeover merely completed the downfall of democracy that has been threatening our country for decades, if not from the very beginning.
All is not yet lost, however. The current political crisis may prove to be the end of the United States of America. But that fate is not yet sealed. There is a very real possibility that the people of the United States can rise from the ashes and rebuild this country. Not to make it like anything it has ever been in the past, but to build a new nation under the same name and with the same purpose: A nation where all people are created equal and the government is one of the people, by the people, and for the people.

It is with this idea in mind that we fly the phoenix flag. We keep the flag of the United States of America to show our pride in the founding principles outlined in the Charters of Freedom, and add the phoenix symbol over the top to show that we the people will rise from the ashes to reclaim our birthright.
The phoenix overlay matches the colors of the flag, and is styled to look just a bit like the symbol of the fictional Rebel Alliance from the Star Wars universe.
Just as the historic American Colonials threw off the shackles of the tyranny of King George III and the fictional Rebel Alliance brought an end to the the authoritarian rule of the Galactic Empire, the true modern patriots of the United States will crush the Trump regime and build a new America...one that actually lives up to the promises of its founding.
Why a Phoenix?
The phoenix is a mythological bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its own destruction. The phoenix symbolizes renewal and rebirth, which our country desperately needs right now.
The phoenix is recognized throughout the world in many different countries and cultures. It is a fitting symbol for our goal of rebuilding this country, but it is also a symbol that has long been a part of this country. In fact, one of the earliest drafts of the Great Seal of the United States featured a phoenix in the center, though the draft was deemed too complex to ever be adopted as the official seal.

In addition to the symbol of the phoenix in the center, this seal featured the following slogan:
In Vindiciam Libertatis
(In Defense of Liberty)
We definitely want the phoenix we use in our flag to evoke the same sense of patriotism that these early American patriots felt, and would suggest the use of not only the phoenix flag, but also the motto In Vindiciam Libertatis. We would like to see these symbols used by anyone who stands for the true principles of the United States of America.
You can find high-resolution images of the phoenix flag in our GitHub repository, along with a variety of other images and assets that are free for anyone to use to help rally the people to defend American democracy.
